Innovative technological and mining solutions provider TAKRAF Group recently concluded the signing of an extensive project with Mauritanian mining and industrial company Societe Nationale Industrielle et Miniere (SNIM) for the supply of a complete iron-ore crushing, screening and materials handling system, coupled with a train loading station for the F’Derick iron-ore project in Mauritania.

This contract was signed at the end of 2023, marking a significant milestone as SNIM undertakes development work on the site.

TAKRAF Group CEO Thomas Jabs asserts that this project is of “paramount importance” to the country of Mauritania and is a testament to the cooperation and expertise of SNIM and the TAKRAF Group.

“Our teams from Europe, South Africa, North America and Asia will work seamlessly to leverage their skills and knowledge. This award underlines our global strength in delivering complex bulk handling systems,” he adds.

In highlighting the regional importance of this collaboration, an inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Mauritania President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The F’Derick iron-ore deposit is renowned for its natural richness in hematite and is constituted within SNIM’s iron-ore complex in Mauritania.

With this project, the Mauritanian company aims to increase the volumes of iron-ore it mines from about 12-million tonnes a year, to about 18-million tonnes a year.

The first batch of TAKRAF equipment supplied includes a primary crushing plant, an apron feeder, a belt conveyor of model CV-1, a secondary plant with pre-screening capability, a belt conveyor of model CV-2, a transfer tower of model TT-1, and auxiliary systems and accessories.

The second batch of equipment to be supplied will comprise a belt conveyor of model CV-5, a train loading station and the required auxiliary systems and accessories.

TAKRAF says that it has designed the system to feed the train loading station with an average loading rate of 100 wagons an hour.

These plant are scheduled to be delivered to site, using the Port of Nouadhibou, over a two year timeframe.

TAKRAF Group sales manager Norbert Neumann commends this agreement as emblematic of the company’s longstanding partnership with SNIM and expects more successes to result from this project.
