Windaba 2024 is honoured to announce that the Minister of Energy & Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is the official patron of this year’s Windaba! Attending for the second consecutive year, this endorsement highlights the crucial role Windaba 2024 plays in shaping the future of South Africa’s energy landscape, with wind positioned as a leading renewable energy technology.

Taking place from the 1st to the 3rd of October 2024, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Windaba 2024 will feature a dynamic and comprehensive programme focused on key topics in the wind energy sector. The event will offer a robust agenda with 21 topics, 21 sessions, and presentations from over 100 distinguished global speakers. Key discussions will address critical issues such as grid access codes and wind project development in Mpumalanga.

Organised by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) and supported by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Windaba 2024 aims to build on the success of last year’s conference, which featured 110 speakers and 27 sessions. This year’s conference promises to be even more impactful, leveraging both international and local expertise to address challenges and opportunities within South Africa’s wind energy sector, which is highlighted by a 32GW project pipeline.

The event will focus on overcoming barriers to wind energy development, including grid constraints, procurement programmes, and regulatory issues. Morongoa Ramaboa, Chief Communications Officer for SAWEA, emphasised the conference’s theme: Building Resilience Through Wind Power, stating, “We must harness wind energy’s full potential to address immediate challenges such as loadshedding, and build a more resilient energy future for South Africa. Our discussions will tackle the hurdles in wind energy development and will explore solutions for advancing the sector”.

Key themes of the conference will include wind energy impact, implementation, finance, policy, and markets. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the investments and strategies needed to advance utility-scale wind projects and meet the country’s energy needs.

The conference will culminate in a prestigious awards ceremony on the 3rd of October, celebrating innovative contributions to the wind sector and South Africa’s energy grid. This event will honour the achievements of industry leaders and showcase the advancements driving the wind energy sector forward, thereby providing a fitting conclusion to an inspiring conference.
