Global leader in motion and control technologies Parker Hannifin introduced the GlobalCore 187 High Performance Hydraulic Hose, a 7 MPa/1 000 psi constant working pressure hose, to enhance its GlobalCore product line.

Announced towards the end of last year, the 187 Hose is designed to provide maximum performance, flexibility and hose life in demanding hydraulic applications across a variety of markets. As the only 1 000 psi constant working pressure hose on the market, the 187 Hose is a revolutionary product made to meet the needs of evolving high- pressure hydraulic systems, including rigorous mining applications.

The addition of the 187 Hose to GlobalCore expands the company’s range of high-performance ISO 18752 hoses to cover the most critical sizes, from –4  mm (1/4ʺ) through –48 mm (3"), and pressure ranges from 1 000 psi to 6 000 psi. Having a constant working pressure hose means simplified hose selection, specification by pressure, not construction, and improved uptime and productivity.

Converting from various product lines to a singular hose family that provides constant working pressure across sizes leads to reduced inventories, reduced maintenance costs and reduced downtime for original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users.

Designed to meet the most common working pressures in today’s industries, GlobalCore’s unified system delivers hoses built to the ISO 18752 specification, which was developed around hose specification and consumer needs – by pressure range rather than construction.

With the addition of the 187 Hose, Parker’s comprehensive GlobalCore system has expanded to support its customers’ hydraulic hose needs, regardless of where their equipment was originally manufactured or where it is today.

“We’re excited to add the 187 Hose to our GlobalCore product line. The 187 Hose fills a gap at the lower end of our constant working pressure hose range and meets two needs; it can be used as a high-pressure return line, or it can be used to address an application where other hoses may be excessive,” says Parker Hannifin Hose Products division business development manager Gregory Reardon.

The GlobalCore system serves customers globally with a high performance, cohesive, and simple solution that OEMs and maintenance, repair and operations need to meet the demands of their applications.

Parker’s Hose Products division, a unit of Parker Hannifin Corporation’s Fluid Connectors Group, is a manufacturer of hose, fittings and crimping technology for industrial and hydraulic markets. Located in Wickliffe, Ohio, in the US, the Hose Products division headquarters is Parker Hannifin’s precision-engineered-solution centre for products, materials and processes, and is equipped with high-quality development, testing and performance technology. It has seven manufacturing locations within the US, which are dedicated to delivering products on time.

Piping Expansion
Parker Hannifin also provides a complete piping solutions (CPS) service, which supports the planning, manufacture and assembly of pipe connection systems.

In July, the company announced that it had expanded its CPS service with the addition of two new features: on-site containers and hot oil flushing containers. Its latest additions are designed to secure greater flexibility, time and cost savings for end-users.

The demand for comprehensive system solutions, including design consultation, tailored manufacture and installation of hydraulic pipes systems, is increasing. As machines are becoming ever more productive and larger, equipment manufacturers are under greater cost pressures, space-saving demands and safety requirements.

Parker Hannifin has several CPS centres globally, where large format pipes and flanges are designed, produced and fitted into complete systems for use in various applications, including industry, machinery, vehicle and shipbuilding, and wind power installations.

Parker’s systems engineers initially develop an application-specific piping concept with corresponding drawings and documentation. After production, the complete pipe connection systems are supplied directly to the point of installation and assembled, hot oil flushed and reviewed on site by Parker experts; all in accordance with customer requirements.

The latest addition of on-site service containers complements Parker’s CPS programme, offering greater flexibility for customers. The containers house all of the assembly machines required for pipes of various sizes; from those with a diameter from 6 mm to 60 mm, up to those with an outside diameter of 273 mm. Besides the standard configurations, the equipping of Parker’s on-site containers can be matched to customer requirements at any time.

All standard connectors – from EO-2 to F37 Parflange through to high-performance flanges – can be manufactured with these machines with the guarantee of consistently good assembly results. Further, on-site containers offer the advantage of assembly at the installation site, saving customers valuable time and transportation effort.

As part of the extended CPS service, Parker hot oil flushing units are being introduced to ensure that pipeline systems are clean and debris-free before going into operation. This procedure increases the safety of a complete pipe connection system and contributes to a reduction in future maintenance time and associated costs.

The new Parker flushing units, which are driven by six electric motors, can clean pipelines with an outside diameter of up to 273 mm. Washing capacity amounts to 3 000 ℓ/m and it can be increased, if required, with additional units. An on-site Parker service technician ensures that the flushing process takes place smoothly and quickly.

With the addition of Parker’s on-site containers and hot oil flushing units, the CPS programme provides a more efficient means of manufacturing piping connector systems, offering end-users a high degree of flexibility, quality of assembly and safety at a significantly reduced cost.

Parker Hannifin has been operating for 50 years in South Africa, providing services and products to its sub-Saharan African customers and to other companies through its strong, professional distribution network of distributor-owned ParkerStores. The company’s local head office is located in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
