No work, no pay will apply to workers participating in Cosatu strike in the Western Cape
The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa has reminded its members that the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) intends to have workers support a protest in the Western Cape on February 26.
This is a protected strike, as per the requirements of the Labour Relations Act, and has been approved by the National Economic Development and Labour Council.
The organisation recommends that management of companies inform all workers that absences related to the protest action will be treated on a no work, no pay basis and that while no disciplinary action for participation in the protest action can be taken, misconduct during the protest can indeed be followed by disciplinary action.
Additionally, a shift for leave-pay and leave-enhancement pay qualification purposes will be lost in respect of the day’s absence and any overtime worked during the course of the week will be paid at ordinary rates to make up for the lost ordinary working hours from February 26.
