South Africa has, for the first time, requested the establishment of two dispute panels under the World Trade Organisation’s dispute settlement system to review measures affecting the import of South African citrus into the European Union (EU). The dispute relates to the approach being taken by the EU to combat the False Codling Moth. South Africa believes the restrictions cannot be justified scientifically and argues, too, that the restrictions are not being applied evenly across countries.
