NYSE- and TSX-V-listed Osisko Development has reported a contractor fatality at its Cariboo gold project in British Columbia.

The company said a contractor working at surface was fatally injured on Thursday following an isolated incident at the site.

An investigation into the incident is under way.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and extend our heartfelt condolences and support to our colleague's family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time,” said chairperson and CEO Sean Roosen.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of all employees and contractors working at the project is our highest priority.”

The company said activities at the Cariboo had been temporarily suspended to allow for the investigation to be completed.
