Recycle like there’s no tomorrow with mining obliged to rework legacy dumps

Recycle like there’s no tomorrow, were the words emblazoned across the screen at last week’s Oppenheimer Research Conference, where 450 scientists were putting their heads together to solve the world’s climate-change crisis and to halt nature loss.

At mining level, this message means that mining companies must be stimulated to remove the mess that their industry has left by restoring the land under the slimes dams and dusty dumps.

There are gold and copper companies with great skills that are turning the dust into wealth and providing valuable jobs to local communities at the same time as they are restoring nature. Government must stimulate this like never before as this is the greatest example of win-win-win potential in the fight against nature loss and climate change.
