No country in the world is better placed than South Africa to take optimal advantage of the world’s colossal surge towards clean electricity. Virtually every day now, far-reaching strategic strides are being taken to entrench green energy as an integral part of economic recovery.

To go green, the world needs many of the metals that South Africa has in abundance, which is great. But what South Africa Incorporated must get going on fast is showcasing the magic of these metals ourselves to stimulate our own economic recovery.

The new South African National Energy Association is right when it says that the transition to clean energy carries an economic opportunity equivalent to Joburg’s gold rush of more than a century ago.

But this time around it could be the combination of a green electricity rush, a solar power rush, a hydrogen revolution rush and an energy storage rush aimed at ensuring that our lives are healthier and our economies are wealthier.
