SEW-EURODRIVE South Africa expands technical capability to strengthen African growth

SEW-EURODRIVE South Africa is making strong progress in its strategy to become a key player in industrial gearboxes, drives and automation across the continent. Years of proactive planning and investment are translating into a growing footprint in both southern and northern African regions.

Already active in countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia, the company is extending its reach into Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania and Morocco. Central to this growth is the expansion of its 26 000 m² headquarters in Aeroton, Johannesburg. Construction of a second facility adjacent to the existing site is well underway and scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

This new service centre will enhance SEW-EURODRIVE’s ability to support customers with expanded sales, engineering and training services. It will house the company’s industrial gearbox repairs division, a larger Drive Academy and in-house functions such as base plate fabrication and sand blasting. Equipment upgrades will include robotic welders, five-axis gear cutting machines and heavy duty cranage.

In a market where technical support is often lacking, SEW-EURODRIVE distinguishes itself through its engineering infrastructure and ability to service not only its own products but also those of other original equipment manufacturers to high standards.

Further growth is also being driven by a continuous pipeline of new products - with 16 already launched globally in 2025 - showcasing the group’s strength in innovation, electronics and AI.

With this foundation, SEW-EURODRIVE South Africa is well positioned for industry leadership across Africa.
