The South African Institution of Chemical Engineers (SAIChE) is set to host the inaugural global Congress of Chemical Engineering from October 6 to 11, 2024, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

With the theme "To Sustainability and Beyond!", this landmark event aims to provide a platform for stakeholders - including individuals, organisations, governments and companies - to showcase their advancements in sustainability and regenerative initiatives. The congress will counteract global scepticism by demonstrating how the chemical engineering sector is addressing pressing global challenges with innovative solutions.

Key Highlights of the Congress:

  • In-depth discussions: Engage in comprehensive dialogues about the necessities, constraints and benefits of pursuing a sustainable future. Discover how industry leaders are moving beyond “business as usual” by adopting cutting-edge approaches in processes, products, energy generation and consumption, water consumption and waste management.
  • Diverse activities: The congress will feature plenary sessions led by prominent industry and academic leaders, technical and research presentations, interactive forums and networking opportunities. Special emphasis will be placed on the Chemical Engineering Think Tank, which will address specific challenges faced by South Africa.
  • Professional Development: Attendees will have the opportunity to earn Category 1 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points from the Engineering Council of South Africa.

Congress Themes and Topics:

Aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the congress will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including:

  • Chemical engineering in society
  • Safety
  • Process engineering and fundamentals
  • Chemical and biochemical production
  • Operational excellence and process control
  • AI and the Fourth Industrial Revolution
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Food and agriculture
  • Health and pharma
  • Materials and corrosion
  • Green mining
