Stellantis automotive manufacturing facility.

Location
Coega Special Economic Zone, near Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Project Owner/s
Stellantis, together with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic).

Stellantis South Africa (SA) will operate and manage the plant.

Project Description
The project will result in the construction of a state-of-the-art greenfield automotive manufacturing facility.

The first launch, planned in early 2026, is the Peugeot Landtrek one-ton bakkie. Volumes are expected to reach up to 50 000 completely knocked-down units a year, including export, in line with the Automotive Production Development Programme.

The Eastern Cape facility will include a body shop, a paint shop and an assembly area totalling more than 50 000 m2. The body shop will not be fully automated.

The plant has the potential to be expanded to produce 90 000 units a year.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 1 000 jobs. A high level of localisation is targeted at launch (35%), and increase over time.

Capital Expenditure
R3-billion. The contributions of the IDC and dtic are yet to be determined.

Planned Start/End Date
The start of assembly is scheduled for 2026.
