Supplier receives stock for distribution
CUTE N' COMPACT The compact yet powerful specialist rotary series of 220 v screw compressors manufactured by Detroit Air is now available locally
Local compressed-air solutions distributor Tru Compressor Solutions is geared to supply manufacturer Detroit Air’s new specialist rotary (SR) series of 220 V ultra-compact, variable-speed drive (VSD), tank-mounted screw compressors to the South African market.
“We have received our stock and we are ready to distribute the new series to our clients,” says Tru Compressor Solutions sales director Phillip Botha.
Tru Compressor Solutions is a certified distributor of the Detroit Air range of compressors in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
The range, designed and manufactured in Shanghai, China, was launched in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, in March 2022.
“The units are built to compete with similar-size piston compressors, mostly used by panel beaters, tyre companies and small engineering companies,” adds Botha.
He enthuses that the units are not only compact but also powerful, efficient and “considerably less noisy”.
Additionally, the SR range is available in configurations ranging from 18 cfm up to 25 cfm and in pressures between eight bar and ten bar.
Motor powers range from 5 hp to 7.5 hp and tank sizes from 100 ℓ to 200 ℓ.
Botha points out that all models are air-cooled and feature variable-speed function, low energy consumption and advanced protection features.
Every model offers simple operation, cost-effective service parts, a long service life and robust construction, with high-quality powder coating and notable engineering, he adds.
All the models are also supported by Tru Compressor Solutions’ warranty and support policy.
VSD Versed
Botha says the SR-5.5 VSD part of the series is equipped with a silent cabinet and 100 ℓ pressure vessel.
The programmable logic controller (PLC) is simple and easy to use and is part of the drive unit.
As a 220 V inverter-driven unit, the compressor is perfect for a 220 V site and requires only a standard supply ranging between 15 A to 20 A.
During testing, the SR-5.5 VSD never exceeded a 12.8 A draw on a 1.5 mm extension cable at 8 bar, Botha adds.
The soft start capability of the VSD ensures no sudden load on the 220 V system, ensuring stability of the electrical supply system.
Botha says that, with the SR-5.5 VSD, the soft start system is easy on the 220 V electrical supply, and a standard 25 A breaker is substantially more than what is required to run this variant up to its full capacity of revolutions per minute and pressure.
The SR-5.5 VSD also has the upgraded touch-screen PLC system that Tru Compressor Solutions clients will be familiar with, as it has been used on preceding Detroit Air G2 compressor models.
The bigger brother of SR-5.5 VSD, the SR-7.5 VSD, also runs at 220 V, but with a 7.5 hp 220 V VSD system and a 200 ℓ tank.
