TAKRAF highlights partnerships, innovation to drive African mining growth
TAKRAF South Africa MD Richard Späth talks to Engineering News & Mining Weekly at Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
Global mining equipment supplier TAKRAF is positioning collaboration, innovation and full-flowsheet capability at the centre of its African growth strategy, TAKRAF South Africa MD Richard Späth indicated during an interview at Mining Indaba 2026.
TAKRAF, historically focused on materials handling, has expanded its portfolio to cover a broader portion of the mining value chain. The company now operates across three core product lines — materials handling, comminution and liquid-solid separation — enabling it to supply integrated solutions across large parts of the mining flowsheet. Materials handling remains the largest component of its business.
Späth noted that Mining Indaba provides a key platform to engage customers from across the continent, where TAKRAF is active in countries including Mauritania, Guinea, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia and Botswana. He added that the event also helps the company align with evolving industry priorities, particularly environmental, social and governance requirements.
He emphasised that partnerships across clients, suppliers and communities are essential to sustainable mining development, as no single participant can operate effectively in isolation. TAKRAF’s long operating history — spanning three centuries globally and more than 100 years in Africa — has been built on such collaboration.
Recent innovation includes the MAXGen flotation cell, which is gaining traction in South Africa’s platinum-group metals sector, alongside ongoing improvements in client and community engagement models.
