TECHNICAL ADVISOR: ENERGY EFFICIENCY & RENEWABLE ENERGY

(Commercial and Industrial Project Development – South Africa)

GIZ South Africa is seeking an experienced energy project development professional to support the development of energy efficiency (EE), renewable energy (RE) and sustainable industrial heat supply projects in the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.

The position focuses on originating and structuring bankable energy projects within South African industrial and commercial companies and support their realisation by facilitating partnerships with German OEMs and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and develop EE, RE and process heat project opportunities with industrial and commercial clients
• Coordinate project development processes from site assessments and data collection to techno-economic analysis
• Coordinate and supervise energy audits, load measurements and technical studies conducted by external consultants
• Advise C&I clients on technical, economic and regulatory feasibility of proposed solutions developed with support from GIZ internal units
• Facilitate partnerships between South African C&I companies and German solution providers
• Organise capacity building and awareness raising measures for local and German target groups
• Build and maintain active engagement with industry stakeholders, financiers and sector institutions

Required Profile

• Master’s degree in engineering, energy, economics or a related field
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial energy, project development, consulting, sales engineering or business development
• Demonstrated experience in energy efficiency, renewable electricity, biomass or process heat projects
• Solid understanding of South Africa’s energy regulatory and investment environment
• Strong client-facing, analytical and stakeholder management skills
• Proven ability to work independently and drive complex projects forward

An existing network in the industrial or energy sector will be a strong advantage.

Position Details

Location: Pretoria

Contract: Until 30 June 2026, with a strong likelihood of extension (24–36 months)
