Toyota Launches Hilux Custom Builds in South Africa to Offer Purpose-Built Business Solutions

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is introducing Hilux Custom Builds, a conversion programme that brings professionally engineered solutions directly into the Toyota product offering. These purpose-built solutions will cater to industries that rely on practical, reliable workhorses, including agriculture, mining, construction, field service or logistics.

A factory-backed, fully warrantied alternative for custom alterations

When your business and livelihood depend on the quality and performance of your vehicle, any uncertainty of its reliability must be eliminated. That’s why Hilux Custom Builds have been developed entirely in-house by Toyota engineers to ensure structural integrity, compatibility and long-term durability.

Working within Toyota Motor Corporation’s Conversion Vehicle Partner Programme (CVPP), each build begins with a dedicated flat-deck Hilux 2.4 GD-6 (4X2 or 4X4) base unit to which the custom configurations are added. All builds are evaluated under South African conditions and tested to original equipment standards. As the Hilux Custom Builds conversions are delivered through the national dealer network, these conversions eliminate the traditional reliance on aftermarket fitment to give customers a seamless, factory-backed alternative.

The vehicles converted through Hilux Custom Builds are supported by Toyota’s 3-year/100,000 km warranty — the same as that of the base vehicle.  The result is a Hilux that extends its value far beyond its standard form.

Nine configurations to suit different industries

The Hilux Custom Builds consists of modular add-ons, all tested by Toyota to ensure seamless integration, structural integrity and uncompromising performance. The nine configurations available include:

  • Dropsides in either Toyota-grade steel or aluminium, delivering exceptional load-carrying capacity, a three-way access system, a flat deck and a header board for maximum efficiency.
  • Cargo rails with optional dropside adaptability for versatile loading and livestock transportation. Available with half- and full-gate setups, the 44mm tubular frame provides rigidity and superior durability, even in demanding conditions.
  • Full or fleet technical canopies to support a variety of operational setups, include canopy-only, canopies with half dropsides or canopies with half dropsides and lid. Optional conversions include drawers, hidden compartments and partitioned sections for organised access while a range of operational setups such as roof rails, a standard water tank, and rear access are also available.
  • Drybox conversions with lockable, double rear doors and side latches that provide enclosed, weatherproof cargo protection. Produced from a lightweight fibreglass, it also features an aerodynamic nose cone that improves fuel efficiency without compromising on toughness.

Full value recognised in future resale

Hilux Custom Builds are available through Toyota’s official accessories and fleet dealer network. Conversions can be ordered with the vehicle and delivered as a complete, ready-to-work unit that is invoiced with the Hilux itself. This means that its full value is recognised in future resale, offering customers a more transparent and predictable ownership cycle.

Find the perfect Hilux Custom Builds configuration for your business by visiting the Toyota Hilux Custom Builds website, your nearest Toyota dealership or by contacting your nearest Toyota Fleet or Accessories representative for more information.
