Transnet Engineering (TE) earlier this month signed a three-year contract with Eswatini Railways (ESR) for the supply and delivery of 26 rolling stock wheelsets for wagons, as well as for D-shed service, or maintenance, of ESR’s locomotives.

TE tells Engineering News that its employees will provide the maintenance of ESR locomotives in Eswatini, while all 26 wheelsets will be manufactured in South Africa.

“As we continue to work together, we will be providing skills within Eswatini,” said TE manufacturing and maritime GE Tswanelo Tswai during the Eswatini International Trade Fair, held in Eswatini, on September 6.

As an original-equipment manufacturer, TE has historically partnered with ESR. TE was recently awarded a two-year contract to maintain four diesel locomotives locally in Eswatini, empowering the railway to build internal maintenance capacity.

TE also secured a six-year contract to provide ongoing diesel locomotive maintenance services.
