South Africa’s minerals energy complex can be turned to very positive account with the correct creation and analysis of enhanced geoscience data. Exploration, mining and renewable energy can go hand in glove to create value-adding jobs and add to our gross domestic product.

Geoscience data delivers billions to Australia, where Deloitte Access Economics has found that precompetitive geoscience data and analysis supported $76-billion of added value in the Australian economy and provided 80 000 full-time-equivalent jobs in 2021/22. It is worth giving South Africa’s Council for Geoscience every assistance to help facilitate the discovery and development of materials essential for the global energy transition, while at the same time providing insight into where renewable energy emerges competitively.

Good data well anaylsed makes resource exploration far more successful and successful exploration increases exports as well as the ability to source metals and minerals locally for local manufacture.
