Western Cape provincial trade, investment and tourism promotion agency Wesgro released, on Tuesday, the latest edition of its 'Guide to Doing Business in Cape Town and the Western Cape'. The guide was issued one week before the inaugural Western Cape Investment Summit.

“This publication is more than a guide, it’s a strategic tool for investors seeking clarity, confidence, and competitive advantage in the Western Cape,” explained Wesgro CEO Wrenelle Stander. “The guide offers investors attending the Western Cape Investment Summit practical steps to access a globally connected, cost-competitive environment supported by world-class infrastructure and an exceptional talent base, all set against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful regions in the world.”

The Western Cape was busy with a multibillion-dollar (not rand) infrastructure development programme. Wesgro pointed out that the province was the most successful in the country in terms of job creation. It had a services-led modern economy and was lined-up with future high-growth economic sectors. It also had a world-class tourism industry. It further benefitted from global connectivity and institutional stability.

“Our success is built on strong partnerships between government, business and academia,” highlighted Western Cape Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism Minister Dr Ivan Meyer. “That is why the upcoming Western Cape Investment Summit is a unique opportunity to unlock new investment into our priority sectors.”

The new guide covers key issues including how to set up a business in South Africa, with step-by-step guidance, and information concerning the tax and regulatory environment. It also covers productivity benchmarks and trends in the labour market, as well as investment incentives from both the national Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the City of Cape Town, and international market access by means of international and regional trade agreements. It also provides data on commercial real estate, utilities and the cost of living.

“Cape Town stands as one of Africa’s leading investment destinations,” affirmed Economic Growth MMC Alderman James Vos. “Through our Ease of Doing Business programme, streamlined processes, and a focus on innovation, we’re making it simpler for companies to expand and thrive, creating jobs and strengthening our city’s economy.”
