Following a 2023 settlement agreement with project partner Alstom (which acquired original contractor Bombardier), Transnet Engineering initiated a 24/5 shift pattern to ramp up production. The project achieved its best-ever performance in 2024, delivering 43 locomotives in a single year and is now said to be on track for completing the delivery of the remaining 40 locomotives by June 2026.

Put together with the impressive performances of our national cricket, football and rugby teams, 2025 is ending with something of a bang rather than the whimpers that have characterised far too many recent years.
