A big new industrial pillar is there for the taking, provided South Africans respond vigorously

South Africa has everything going for it to turn the green electron and green molecule revolution into a major new industrial pillar that effectively creates within itself the just energy transition potential that is also so necessary. If South Africans grasps this green revolution opportunity effectively, it will catalyse a hugely beneficial directional change for our country.

While declaring that we have the potential to export energy admittedly does sound strange at a time when South Africa is experiencing electricity load-shedding, there is absolutely no doubt that we have the potential to do just that. We are one of the very few nations that have more renewable energy available to them than what they need for themselves. This places South Africa in a very strong position to be able to export green energy.

The private sector is already collaborating impressively with those Ministries that have articulated their support for green energy development and even drawn up road maps to guide it. South Africa has bright sun, prime wind, mine water storage potential, other modern storage opportunities, land, platinum group metals and even world-leading skills, which are reflected in the hydrogen haul truck that is doing its zero-emission rounds very impressively at the Mogalakwena mine, in Limpopo.
