ASX-listed Arafura Rare Earths has announced the appointment of Ian Murray as to its board as a nonexecutive director.

Chartered accountant Murray brings more than 30 years of experience in financial, corporate, project development, mergers and acquisitions, and operational experience across Australia, Africa, Asia Pacific and North America.

“After an extensive search, conducted by Korn Ferry, I am very pleased to announce Ian’s appointment to the Board of Arafura. The skills, experience and capabilities that he brings are strongly aligned to support Arafura’s growth trajectory. Ian will replace recent retired director Chris Tonkin as chair of the audit committee and will serve to strengthen the financial skill base of the board as Arafura heads into the next stages of development,” said chairperson Mark Southey.

Murray was most recently CEO and MD of Gold Road as it transitioned from small market capitalisation explorer to large-scale plus-billion-dollar gold producer. Today, he is a nonexecutive director with Black Rock Mining and non-profit organisation Miners Promise, as well as nonexecutive chair of Jupiter Mines.
