The C&I Solar + Storage Summit, co-hosted with the EIUG Convention, was a groundbreaking gathering of industry experts, policymakers and investors, all united to shape the future of energy in South Africa.

We were honoured to have Mike Teke, CEO of Seriti Resources, share during his keynote, the urgent need for decarbonisation and the potential of renewable energy to drive economic growth. The discussions echoed the pivotal role of solar and storage solutions in building a sustainable and resilient energy system.

As we explored the challenges and opportunities of integrating renewable energy into the grid, a focal point was the significance of energy storage in enhancing grid reliability and flexibility. The dialogue extended to the social and economic implications of this energy transition, emphasising the importance of a just transition to ensure equitable benefits and support for affected communities.

Financing and investment were at the forefront of our discussions, and participants engaged in conversations about innovative financial mechanisms, risk mitigation, and the role of government policies in advancing the energy transition. We discussed strategies for attracting investment and ensuring robust insurance coverage for renewable projects, underlining the necessity of a supportive regulatory environment.

Project pitches and discussions on optimal energy mixes, energy efficiency, and groundbreaking projects stimulated vibrant engagement.

The EIUG dinner, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the organisation, was a memorable evening that underscored the vital role of groups like EIUG in championing energy-intensive users across the value chain.

In-depth boardroom masterclasses offered participants a chance to delve into the technical nuances and financial implications of solar and storage technologies. Topics included solar system design, component selection, and the business case for solar and storage, providing a comprehensive financial analysis considering factors such as upfront costs and long-term savings.

The conference was a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration, addressing key challenges and opportunities in South Africa’s energy sector, thus contributing significantly to a sustainable and resilient energy future.
