Audi and partner Rubicon have added six 150 kW DC rapid public chargers for electric vehicles (EVs) at locations across South Africa.

The new chargers will be located along the N1, N2 and N3 corridors within easy reach for city dwellers, but also those motorists travelling longer distances.

This latest expansion marks Audi South Africa’s third wave of charging infrastructure investment since 2022, bringing the total investment to more than R50-million.

Earlier investments saw Audi, in partnership with Rubicon and GridCars, establish more than 120 DC and AC public charging points within the national charging grid.

The six new chargers will each offer two charging points that can supply charge concurrently.

Audi promises that a 150 kW ultrafast charger can top up an average Audi e-tron battery from 5% to 80% in 30 minutes or less.

The new Wallbox Supernova charging stations are at the N1 – Fleurdal Mall, Bloemfontein; N1 – Century City, Cape Town; N1 – Tygervalley Shopping Centre, Cape Town; N2 – Galleria Mall, Amanzimtoti; N2 – Somerset Mall, Somerset West; and the N3 – The Avenues Centre, Hilton.

“This third wave of investment into the public charging network in South Africa highlights once again our commitment to electric mobility,” says Audi South Africa head Sascha Sauer.

“We believe EVs represent the future of our brand, both globally as well as locally, and we’re therefore playing our part in making electric mobility a convenient, straightforward reality for more and more South Africans.”
