The Construction Education and Training Authority (Ceta) has allocated about R180-million to fund various training initiatives, which is set to benefit 2 267 learners across all nine provinces.

Ceta says this marks a pivotal step in its commitment to shaping the future of the construction and built environment sector.

"With these initiatives, we aim to address the aspirations of the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) set out by President Cyril Ramaphosa, to assist in alleviating unemployment, stimulate skills for the economy and job creation opportunities for young people in those communities where there are limited economic activities," says Ceta spokesperson Thabo Masombuka.

This investment signifies Ceta's commitment to addressing critical skills shortages and underscores its dedication to empowering learners from diverse backgrounds, including both employed and unemployed individuals, it says.

Moreover, the various training programmes aim to provide a comprehensive approach to skills development, ensuring that learners are equipped with the expertise needed for success in the construction and built environment sector.

Ceta's transformation strategy prioritises aggressive infrastructure investment, gender equality, and the economic inclusion of women and youth.

“These priorities align with the 2024 SoNA, addressing multidimensional infrastructure development that relevant sector education and training authorities, including Ceta, must actively participate in,” it says.
