Presidential Climate Commission welcomes Dorah Modise as executive director
The Presidential Climate Commission has welcomed Dorah Modise as its executive director. She stepped into the role on February 24 and will oversee the commission’s strategic direction and efforts to accelerate the transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Modise brings a wealth of experience in environmental sustainability, international diplomacy, local, regional and national government, industry associations and academia.
She previously held leadership roles at the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, served as deputy director-general at the Gauteng Provincial Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and served as executive director for city sustainability at the City of Tshwane.
Further, Modise served as Green Building Council of South Africa CE and was a regional director for Africa for sustainable cities organisation C40 Network before joining the Climate Commission.
Her appointment comes at a critical time as the commission continues its work to advise the government on climate policy, monitor progress on emissions reduction targets, and promote actions that ensure the well-being of the country's communities and its ecosystem, the Climate Commission says.
“It is an honour to lead the Climate Commission during a time of profound change and opportunity. We must act urgently to reduce emissions, advance the national climate agenda, address pressing challenges and create an equitable, resilient and sustainable future for all,” she says.
