The Coega Development Corporation (Coega) is proud to participate in the 18th Africa Energy Indaba 2026, currently underway in Cape Town, where President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered an impactful keynote address outlining South Africa’s energy priorities and the continent’s pathway to sustainable development.

President Ramaphosa said: “Energy is not a luxury; it is a must. Without energy, the broader aspiration of development, of integration of the African continent, of access and inclusion, cannot be achieved. It is also a matter of equity and equality. It cannot be allowed that so many Africans have no access to electricity.

This is an issue that needs urgent attention. Electricity allows for development, job creation and improved lives. When the continent is talking about energy, it also needs to talk about industrialisation.”

Held under the theme “Igniting the Power Revolution, the Indaba brings together African energy leaders, policymakers, investors, innovators, and development partners to accelerate energy security, regional integration, and strategic investment across the continent.

With Africa’s energy demand expected to rise significantly over the coming decades, the transition to cleaner, more sustainable, and diversified energy systems has become an urgent and strategic priority. Coega’s participation reflects its continued role as a catalyst for infrastructure-led growth and a key enabler in South Africa’s energy transition.

“Coega has positioned itself to align with the development of a diversified energy mix, as highlighted in the Integrated Resource Plan 2025. Through engagements and knowledge sharing with industry leaders, Coega continues to ensure that it is regarded as a major player in the planning, development and implementation of energy projects that are aimed to alleviate energy poverty in South Africa while increasing the socio-economic benefits from the energy industry,” said Ms. Nomaxabiso Johnson, New Ventures: Project Development Manager  at the Coega Development Corporation.

Throughout the Indaba, Coega is engaging senior industry leaders, global investors, and energy innovators to explore partnership opportunities in renewable energy, gas, hydrogen, and other emerging sectors. These engagements are designed to attract high-impact investments, spur job creation, and underpin major infrastructure developments that support national and regional economic priorities.

Coega is showcasing its portfolio of catalytic projects, proven track record in mega-infrastructure delivery, and scalable investment-ready platforms aligned with Africa’s evolving energy landscape. As the Indaba continues to position Africa as a competitive energy investment destination, Coega remains committed to contributing meaningful solutions, insights, and partnerships that drive the continent’s energy future.

The Africa Energy Indaba remains one of the continent’s most influential platforms for leadership, collaboration, and innovation and Coega is honoured to be part of shaping Africa’s energy pathway to prosperity.
