Construction company Concor has won awards for two projects at the twenty-second instalment of Construction World’s Best Projects Awards.

The aim of the awards is to recognise excellence in civil engineering, building, specialist suppliers and contractors, as well as consulting engineering and architecture.

Concor' s name has long been associated with Construction World's Best Projects with numerous of the company's projects, both in infrastructure and the built environment, winning accolades over the past 22 years.

The company won the Highly Commended Award in the Building Contractors category for its Trevenna super basement project in Sunnyside, Pretoria, which involves a “future-proofed” 70 000 m2 five-level basement that stretches 20 m below ground level, as a precursor for A-grade office buildings in the Trevenna Office Campus.

Concor also received a Special Mention Award for this project with the AfriSam Innovation Award for Sustainable Construction category.

Owing to the basement floor having been 12 m below the water table, it created significant groundwater and rainwater challenges, which, along with hard rock conditions, required controlled blasting and other excavation to reach the required level.

Concor was also awarded a Highly Commended Award in the AfriSam Innovation Award category, as well as a Special Mention Award in the Building Contractors category, for its Eastgate sustainability project, which involved the extension of a solar power generation plant; upgrading of the heating, cooling and ventilation system; and the installation of rainwater harvesting facilities.

A key demanding condition underpinning each of the projects was the fact that trading activities needed to continue safely without disruption.

Concor managed to overcome the challenge with careful planning, efficient execution and skilled workmanship.

Winning awards and securing podium finishes in a prestigious competition such as Construction World’s Best Projects is a testament to the company’s commitment to excellence and its ability to deliver outstanding results in infrastructure and the built environment.
