Nelson Mandela once said, "There can be no greater gift than that of giving one's time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return."

Engen employees have once again helped make a difference in the communities where they operate to mark Nelson Mandela Day.

'Engenites' from Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg rolled up their sleeves and spent 67 minutes packing food hampers for distribution to vulnerable folk across the country.

They partnered with social impact organisation, FoodForward SA to make a difference to the lives of those in desperate need.

In addition, Engen pledged R2 million fuel to FoodForward SA, taking its total fuel support of the disaster response organization to R6 million.

Engen first partnered with FoodForward SA in 2020, helping to power the delivery of nutritious food to vulnerable people across South Africa.

The official cheque hand took place in Cape Town, on July 18th to mark Mandela Day.

The 2023 Engen fuel support will help cover the cost of fuelling FoodForward SA’s fleet of trucks and vehicles to reach the most vulnerable communities and combat food insecurities in remote and rural areas.

"As a brand that is committed to enriching lives for a sustainable future, Engen is humbled to once again partner with FoodForward SA and do our part," said Engen's Stakeholder and Transformation Manager, Dr James Xolani Nyawera.

“As a caring and inclusive company with ‘heart’, support of FoodForward SA aligns with Engen’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which endeavour to ensure a better and more sustainable future for all,” says Nyawera.

As a company, Engen champions nine of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, which aspires to ensure health and well-being for all and SDG 2 - Zero Hunger by addressing food insecurity.

Andy du Plessis, managing director of FoodForward SA thanked all the Engen volunteers for rolling up their sleeves this Mandela Day and doing their part.

“Another R2 million fuel support will help FoodForward SA alleviate hunger across the country and ensure many more impoverished households receive food provisions.

Thank you to Engen for their ongoing generosity and partnership over the years and for caring enough to make a real difference,” said du Plessis”.

Nyawera commended Team Engen for contributing their 67 minutes this Mandela Day and helping to change the world for the better.
