As South Africa’s demand for reliable and cost-effective power solutions continues to grow, diesel engine dealer YC Diesel has identified the need for a factory-supported supplier that provides “high-quality generators while ensuring strong after-sales support and reliable warranties”.

The company now offers a comprehensive range of generators – from 20 kVA units to 1.2 MW – with larger models available for industrial applications.

With over 20 years of experience in the generator industry – and support from Chinese machine industry company Yuchai – YC Diesel has built a reputation for delivering quality and reliability. Its long-term approach also ensures that every generator sold is supported throughout its life span.

Generators are often seen as a “grudge purchase” – a necessary but expensive investment – says YC Diesel CEO Tom Bloom.

However, the company aims to change that perception by offering cost-effective solutions that help businesses “save on capital expenditure without compromising on quality”.

YC Diesel has observed a similar shift in perception over time in the automotive industry and is following the same approach in the generator market.

A key factor contributing to the company’s success is its proven reliability. Its joint ventures with civil aerospace, defence and power systems company Rolls-Royce and its power systems unit MTU Solutions ensure that YC Diesel’s products are built to high engineering and durability standards.

Moreover, the demand for generators has shifted from small business and residential use towards “bigger engines and industrial power plants, and we’ve expanded our product range accordingly”, states Bloom.

The company is strategically positioned to meet this demand by supplying generators – starting from 10 kVA – to multi- megawatt power plants. YC Diesel also stocks 1 MW and 1 250 kVA units locally to ensure availability for large-scale projects.

YC Diesel is also reportedly raising the standard for after-sales support by going beyond the industry-standard warranty of one year, or 1 000 hours.

“We double the industry-standard warranty because we stand behind our products; a warranty is only as good as the company that backs it. That’s why we have a strong in-country policy, allowing us to adjudicate claims quickly and efficiently.”

Bloom adds that the company stocks genuine YC Diesel and Yuchai parts, ensuring that customers receive high-quality replacements as and when needed.

To further enhance accessibility, it has established a strong dealer network throughout South Africa, ensuring that products and services are available nationwide.

It also maintains low operational overheads, enabling it to offer premium- quality generators at competitive prices.

Bloom highlights that YC Diesel is committed to innovation and alternative fuel technologies, and has explored gas- and hydrogen-powered solutions, because the company believes that hydrogen will become a critical alternative fuel source within the next five years.

As industries increasingly require larger and more powerful generators, YC Diesel remains dedicated to providing high-quality, cost-effective and reliable power solutions with short lead times.
