Engineering procurement and construction (EPC) company Lesedi is participating at this year’s Africa Energy Indaba (AEI) as a gold partner, says Lesedi business development executive Shane Pereira.

This will be the company’s eighth year of participation.

During the first and second days of the conference, Lesedi will be part of the panels discussing topics regarding African off-grid potential, and the future of oil and gas on the continent in the energy transition scenario.

“We can share critical insights at the Indaba, owing to our role as a leader, being involved in different sectors in the energy landscape and wearing multiple hats from an execution and operating maintenance perspective.”

The company will also have a 30-minute trade zone presentation on the exhibition floor, emphasising embedded-generation and off-grid energy market-related scenarios, and hybrid type solutions, including solar and battery storage.

During the presentation, Lesedi will provide case studies and showcase the state of the energy industry with potential solutions.

“We will be looking at quite complicated scenarios on combined heat and power solutions, for example. “We have clients that are considering options to be less reliant on State-owned power utility Eskom. Hence, the trade zone presentation will discuss topics we think are important for the energy industry.”

Further, Lesedi CEO Francis Carruthers will participate at the CEO round table discussions during the event, which will address the topic of ensuring that renewable-energy systems meet expectations in Africa.

While Pereira explains that in-person communication is irreplaceable from a business and communications perspective, he says the Indaba provides good exposure for the company and that virtual platforms allow for greater exposure throughout Africa.

Key Focus

The company aims to showcase itself at the AEI as a trusted EPC brand operating in the energy landscape and share leadership insights across different market sectors.

“Bringing bespoke solutions to our clients is a key focus for us, whether it be in waste energy or biomass, for example. We are in the business of enriching Africa, bearing in mind the different contexts across African countries, which is quite a focal point for us,” explains Pereira.

Moreover, the company aims to establish business relationships at the AEI by meeting new and existing stakeholders seeking energy solutions from Lesedi.

Pereira adds that Lesedi aims to bring private and market experience to the forefront, owing to the company’s experience in an ever-changing energy landscape.

He says energy solutions are technical and commercial, and that financial models need to consider changes within a specific environmental context, which could impact on long-term investment. Therefore, the company aims to be as objective as possible, depending on the individual circumstance of each scenario it faces.

The company is in discussions with original-equipment manufacturers about projects that are being developed in various sectors.

Lesedi aims to converse with companies at the AEI interested in funding these projects.

“We have relationships with a few funding institutions, but we aim to assist companies seeking to execute projects,” he concludes.
