Ferrexpo output, exports interrupted after power strikes in Ukraine

Iron-ore pellet producer Ferrexpo has temporarily suspended production and exports from its Ukrainian operations after missile attacks on the country’s power infrastructure disrupted electricity supply to the mining city of Horishni Plavni and nearby Kremenchuk.

The company said the attacks, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, targeted energy transmission facilities, cutting power to its Ferrexpo Poltava Mining and Ferrexpo Yeristovo Mining subsidiaries. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Ferrexpo confirmed that production and exports would be interrupted while efforts were under way to restore power to the affected sites. Limited electricity supply has since been reinstated, allowing parts of the processing plant to resume operations.

“In preparation for such events, the group has established stocks of intermediary non-finished and finished iron-ore products on site and at other locations to minimise disruption to its production cycle and exports,” the company said.

Ferrexpo, one of Europe’s largest suppliers of high-grade iron-ore pellets to steelmakers, exports primarily through Black Sea ports, which remain a critical conduit for Ukrainian mineral exports despite ongoing logistical and security challenges.
