JSE-listed aluminium producer Hulamin reports that independent nonexecutive chairperson Thabo Leeuw will retire after 17 years of working for the company, effective August 31.

During his tenure, Leeuw contributed leadership that was critical to the direction of the group, the company states, adding that he had helped to set Hulamin’s strategy and guided management to bring stability to the business amid operational and performance constraints as a result of a challenging macro environment.

Moreover, Hulamin has appointed Paul Baloyi independent nonexecutive director, with effect from April 1, to ultimately succeed Leeuw as chairperson from September 1. This allows for a structured handover process and a smooth transition of responsibilities between the executives.

Baloyi has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, having specialised in risk, governance and strategy matters for development finance, enterprise development and institutional capacity building segments of businesses.

His previous stints include CEO and MD of Development Bank of Southern Africa and its development fund from 2006 to 2013, as well as MD of Nedbank Africa.

Baloyi is currently also an independent nonexecutive director for Bid Corporation, Alphamin Resources and Peermont Group. He also serves as chairperson of ENX Group and Momentum Metropolitan Holdings.
