Hydra Arc: Welding
Established in 1987, Hydra Arc has grown from being a supplier of specialised welders into a leading refinery maintenance, turnaround specialist, steel fabrication and construction company, operating in the petrochemicals, construction, mining and power generation industries.
The Hydra Arc Group prides itself on being a world leader in the welding field, combining over 35 years of specialised experience with innovation and a willingness to embrace and develop new technologies.
“Imagination is the key to innovation,” says Group chairperson José Maciel and a focus on development, training and the adoption of the latest technologies, and world’s best practice has allowed Hydra Arc to expand its business both locally and internationally.
Recognising the worldwide shortage of appropriately skilled and competent artisans, the Hydra Arc Group established a labour supply business, Jomele Labour Hire and Placements, which recruits and trains artisans for placement in the South African welding, steel fabrication and construction industries. Jomele boasts an extensive database of skilled artisans and houses the Hill-Side Artisan Academy which trains up to 1 000 artisans a year.
Welding is a major component of the Hydra Arc Group’s core business, and part of its human resources development strategy is a focus on up-skilling welders to address the critical lack of welding skills in the industry and the country.
Hydra Arc’s uncompromising approach to quality and safety ensures that it consistently delivers exceptional service and products. The company’s insightful leadership has nurtured a positive safety culture, achieving ISO 45001 certification and several National Occupational Safety Association, or NOSA, excellence awards.
Recognising the global shift toward sustainability, Hydra Arc is integrating its safety, health, environment and quality, or SHEQ, management systems. With ISO 3834 and ISO 9001 certification and boasting several prestigious international awards for quality and excellence, Hydra Arc holds a respected reputation within the welding sphere.
