Infrastructure investment is a must for economic growth and job creation

Properly implemented infrastructure development is a major economic enlarger that rewards a country long after the road, rail, bridge, energy, water, communication, aviation, health and many other public structures have been built. In South Africa’s case, the pervasive existing infrastructure that needs to be rehabilitated presents a greater likelihood of near-term developmental and private banking support, which is a major advantage. Financial institutions must be alerted to the commitment of South Africa’s new multiparty unity government to build a world that is fair, just, inclusive and prosperous. In short, development banks must be constantly reminded of their developmental mandate and their need to perform in a manner that ensures that private investment is also made to flow where it is needed most.
