Name of the Project
Kestrel waste gas-to-energy project.

Location
At the Kestrel mine, north of Emerald, in Queensland, Australia.

Project Description
The project will involve the development of a waste gas-to-electricity facility. The project will cut the mine’s CO2 emissions by more than one-million tonnes over eight years.

The project will expand the underground mine’s drainage system to capture more fugitive gas, preventing it from being released into the atmosphere. The 30 MW power station will generate enough electricity to power more than 40 000 homes.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create about 160 positions, in addition to the existing, 700-strong mine workforce.

Planned Start/End Date
Full operations are expected to start in 2026.
