Chinese car maker LDV has confirmed that its full range of passenger and commercial vehicles have been given the go-ahead for introduction in the South African market.

The company is part of the SAIC automotive group.

LDV’s T60 double-cab bakkie range is the first to be unveiled, with pricing ranging from R480 000 to R790 000.

“The T60 range is a global best-seller for LDV, and it has already proven itself in markets with very similar climates to South Africa, such as Australia,” says LDV South Africa (SA) GM Ockert Conradie.

“But, while our immediate focus is on launching the LDV T60, we are also gearing up quickly to bring a wide range of new LDV models to our shores.”

The second model expected on local soil is the D90 sports-utility vehicle (SUV).

LDV says the seven-seater SUV is a best-seller for the brand in Australia, thanks “to its range of powerful diesel engines, its choice of 4x4 and 4x2 drive trains and its 5-star safety rating”.

Another model on the menu for South Africa is the G90 multipurpose vehicle (MPV).

Features include – depending on the model – independently adjustable rear seats, quilted leather upholstery, an oversized panoramic sunroof and a multiscreen infotainment system that stretches across the front dashboard.

The G90 MPV will arrive in South Africa with the choice of seven or eight seats.

LDV SA is also finalising a line-up of commercial vehicles.

The first model planned for South Africa is the G10+ delivery van.

This medium-sized panel offers 5.2 m3 of cargo space, a two-litre diesel engine, automatic transmission and dual sliding doors.

LDV SA says it will offer all its models with a 5-year/200 000 km factory warranty and a five year/100 000 km service plan.
