Bids sought for construction and rehab of Malawi water supply schemes

Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development is inviting bids for the construction and rehabilitation of gravity-fed water supply schemes in Rumphi district, in the Northern Region, and in Nkhotakota district, in the Central Region.

The assignment will be financed by the African Development Bank as part of Malawi’s Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Infrastructure for Improved Health and Livelihood project.

Lot 1 of the assignment entails the construction and/or rehabilitation of the Hewe, Mlowe, Ntchenachena, Ng’onga and Mhuju gravity-fed water schemes, in Rumphi district. Its scope involves civil works for intake and treatment infrastructure, transmission pipelines, tanks, distribution lines, service lines and tap water points.

Lot 2 entails construction and/or rehabilitation of the Dwambazi gravity-fed rural water scheme, in Nkhotakota district, and its scope includes civil works for intake and treatment infrastructure, the transmission pipeline, tanks, distribution lines, service lines and tap water points.

The Ministry will hold a prebid conference in the capital city, Lilongwe, and conduct site visits for the bidders between June 21 and 23.

Bid documents in English are obtainable on payment of a nonrefundable fee equivalent to MK50 000 (about $70) in a freely convertible currency.

The bids will be valid for 120 days after bid opening and must be accompanied by a bid security of MK50-million (about $70 000) for Lot 1 and MK25-million (about $35 000) for Lot 2.

The deadline for the submission of bids is July 10.
