TSX- and ASX-listed Marimaca Copper on Friday announced the sudden passing of director Colin Kinley.

Kinley joined Marimaca, then known as Coro Mining, in 2016, served as chairperson from 2017 to 2018, and most recently chaired the audit committee. He was widely respected across the natural resources industry for his technical expertise and leadership.

President and CEO Hayden Locke said Kinley had been “a steadying hand through the difficult times” and that his contributions had helped build the foundation for Marimaca’s current success.

The company extended its condolences to Kinley’s family and said his board seat would remain vacant until the next AGM.

Kinley was also a director of Gunnison Copper. "We are deeply saddened by Colin's sudden passing. He has been a valuable member of the Board since 2010, but more importantly he has been a friend for nearly 20 years. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends; he will be deeply missed by all," Gunnison CEO and president Stephen Twyerould said.

"Colin was a mining subject matter expert, a person of broad and valuable perspective and of sharp strategic instincts. But most importantly, he was a wonderful human being. His passing is a significant loss to our company and to us as friends," added Gunnison chairperson Fred Duval.

Kinley's seat on the board of Gunnison would also remain vacant until the next annual meeting of shareholders.
