Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) CEO and MBSA Manufacturing executive director Andreas Brand has resigned.

He will take on a new role as Mercedes-Benz production network completely knocked down and mid-volume executive, based in Germany, starting on November 30.

In this role he will be responsible for seven Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plants around the world, including strategic oversight of MBSA’s East London manufacturing operations.

Abey Kgotle will take up the position as new MBSA CEO from December 1.

A replacement for the manufacturing executive director role is yet to be announced.

Kgotle currently serves as MBSA human resources and corporate affairs executive director.

He has held executive roles at several companies across the mining and manufacturing industries, including Lonmin, GrafTech South Africa and Samancor Manganese.

He has also previously served on the boards of Daimler Trucks and Buses Southern Africa and Mercedes-Benz Financial Services as chairperson and director, respectively.

Kgotle is also the current chairperson of the Automobile Manufacturers Employers’ Organisation, which represents South Africa’s vehicle assemblers.
