More power and fuel efficiency from new generation surface drill rig
An updated addition to the PowerROC range of surface drill rigs offers increased fuel efficiency and faster operations, says Epiroc surface division senior product manager Masanori Kogushi.
The new generation PowerROC T35 features several benefits for quarries and construction companies. The fuel consumption is up to 40% lower compared to the previous PowerROC T35 rig. This is because of the auto engine speed control, which enables automatic optimisation of the engine speed for all operations.
The rig also promises a boost in production, as it is 45% faster at changing rods compared to the previous version which decreases the total time to finish the hole.
All data in the updated machine can be viewed by the operator on a 12-inch touch screen with intuitive display, making the rig easier to run and helping to speed up the training of new operators. Drilling operations can be conducted with only a few actions, reducing the lever operations required by the operator to approximately 80% compared to the current version.
A trouble-shoot function is also built into the touch-screen display. The compact design also features a new hydraulic return filter, which reduces the required amount of hydraulic oil by 50%. Service points are also made to be easier to access, for ease of maintenance. In addition, longer service intervals help to lower the total cost of ownership.
The cabin is now equipped with updated ergonomic joysticks for more comfortable operation. The upgraded air conditioner, with higher cooling performance, also helps to improve the cabin environment.
The new rig is equipped with a COPSC19 rock drill. The drill features a frequency of 50 Hz which is designed to deliver higher performance in hard rock conditions. The SC19 rock drill is also fitted with a dual damper which helps to improve energy efficiency during drilling.
There are two engine options for the new generation PowerROC T35, namely a Tier 4 final/stage V engine or a Tier 3 engine.
