To meet growing demand for specialised cutting services, waterjet cutting specialist Aquajet has procured a new precision waterjet machine from jet machining manufacturer Omax to complement its three existing Omax machines.

“The machine is part of our ambitious expansion, which aims to increase our productivity output to an all-time high in the current favourable market,” notes Aquajet GM Tannith van Wyk.

“Waterjet cutting is a greener approach to conventional cutting methods, as the equipment doesn’t generate toxic fumes or waste material,” she adds.

“This process not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enables us to cut a wider range of materials.”

Aquajet uses Omax waterjet machines because they are one of the highest-quality machines in the market.

“Omax machines use the latest software versions for computer-aided design, and are equipped with a triplex continuous pressure pump, ensuring a consistent pressure outlet of 550 00 psi, or 3 800 bar,” she adds.

The machines are designed to optimise each cut to decrease material waste while ensuring a linear positional accuracy of about 0.025 mm.

Further, they not only ensure risk-reduction, but also create innovative opportunities with their tilt-a-jet head on two of their machines. This results in a taper-free edge on each part and an induced taper of up to 9°, if required.

“We currently offer five grades of cutting to suit almost every purpose and material.

Using Aquajet’s unique process of waterjet cutting, the machines can cut without distortion or annealing, even when cutting high-carbon steels such as titanium,” Van Wyk adds.

Meanwhile, the company’s expansion plans also included moving to a larger premises of 2 100 m2 of which 650 m2 is dedicated to the machines, which run six days a week.

The decision to expand was made late last year and Aquajet started operating at the new address in March 2022.

The new premises offer an additional 1 000 m2 and bigger yard to allow for greater loading capacity, as well as self-sufficient energy and water systems to maximise productivity.

“Despite hardships faced by many in the manufacturing industry, Aquajet continues to be the centre of cutting excellence, resulting in a quick turnaround, while cultivating a secured place in the market,” Van Wyk concludes.
