German pumps and valves producer KSB has broadened its local series of pumps with the introduction of the Amarex KRT submersible motor pumps range for handling munici- pal and industrial wastewater in a cost-effective manner.

The company notes that KSB engineers have further improved on the operating reliability and hydraulic efficiency of previous pumps in order to get optimal operation out of the pump.

“By focusing on the typical operating ranges of wastewater pumping stations, the developers have adjusted the impellers’ free passages to not only comply with the applicable standard, but also allow the pumps to offer as broad a range of applications as possible,” KSB states.

The KSB pumps are now avail- able in four different impeller types and the submersible motor pumps can achieve a maximum flow rate of 10.080 m3/h and a head of 120 m. With 850 kW of power on tap, it offers the highest standard motor power available on the South African market.

KSB electric drives for these modern submersible motor pumps remain efficient and users can choose a highly efficient motor variant, which corresponds to the IE3 efficiency level for standardised motors, in accordance with the IEC-60034-30 standard, depending on the system’s load profile.

“Such motors are particularly interesting, as the power- ful pumps have a high start-up frequency. “Two bidirectional mechanical seals reliably protect the motor space against ingress of water,” the Germiston-based company says.

The pumps are manufactured with a chamber filled with environment-friendly oil, which ensures cooling and lubrication of the mechanical seals of the pump even when gas-laden fluids have to be pumped. The custom-dimensioned ball bearings are permanently sealed and support the stainless steel shaft while individual conductors – stripped, tinned and sealed in resin – ensure that the cable gland is absolutely watertight even in the event of damage to the cable sheath or the insulation. This also effectively protects the pump from short circuits.

To ensure that the pumps can be easily dismantled even after years of operation under tough conditions, all wetted screwed connections are made of stainless steel. KSB also supplies similar pumps that are able to transport acid wastewater, which are made from high-grade stainless and acid- resistant duplex steel.
