New-vehicle sales up 12.5% in November, exports down 3.9%
November new-vehicle sales, at 54 896 units, jumped by 12.5% compared with the same month last year.
naamsa | The Automotive Business Council said on Monday that South Africa’s domestic new car and truck market was boosted by easing inflation, meaningful fuel-price relief, a more accommodative interest rate environment, and a strengthening sovereign risk profile following the country’s first credit rating upgrade in nearly two decades.
Year-to-date, the new-vehicle market was now 15.4% ahead of the corresponding 11 months last year.
The new-passenger-car market gained 11% in November, to reach 39 158 units.
Car rental sales were central to passenger volumes, accounting for 21.2% of sales as the sector prepared for peak holiday demand, noted naamsa.
Sales of new bakkies, minibuses, panel vans and small trucks increased by 20.5%, to 13 048 units.
Sales of medium trucks, at 698 units, inched down by 0.6%, while sales of heavy trucks and buses increased by 1.3%, to 1 992 units.
Vehicle exports reached 35 848 units in November, which was a 3.9% drop from the same month last year.
Year-to-date export volumes, however, remained 5.6% ahead of the same period in 2024.
