The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) has welcomed the announcement by Cabinet of the reappointment of Ditebogo Kgomo as CEO of the organisation, stating that it marks an important milestone in the continued strengthening of the NNR’s leadership and governance capacity as it fulfils its mandate to ensure the protection of persons, property and the environment against nuclear damage.

“The board is confident that Ms Kgomo’s appointment will further enhance the regulator’s strategic capability and reinforce its commitment to upholding the highest standards of nuclear and radiation safety regulation. We further look forward to her leadership in advancing the NNR’s mission of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety regulatory excellence in South Africa," says NNR chairperson Protas Phili.

As CEO, Kgomo will lead the organisation in executing its strategic objectives, strengthening stakeholder engagement and promoting a culture of safety and transparency in South Africa’s nuclear sector.

The NNR states that it remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding South Africans and the environment by ensuring that all nuclear activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner, in compliance with national legislation and international obligations.

Kgomo joined the NNR as CEO and executive director in November 2022.
