The Port of Durban has completed its handling of the nearly 400-m-long, 19 437 twenty-foot-equivalent-unit-capacity container ship MSC Rifaya.

The MSC Rifaya, which is the largest container ship to dock at the port and required a coordinated four-tug operation to dock, made an unscheduled call at the port to conduct emergency repairs.

The successful handling of the vessel demonstrates the port's capabilities and infrastructure to accommodate large vessels, says Durban acting port manager Nkumbuzi Ben-Mazwi.

“This achievement demonstrates our capabilities and readiness to handle the increasing demand for large vessels and we are committed to continuously improving our infrastructure and services to meet the evolving needs of the maritime industry,” he comments.
