Pumping tech enables recycling solution
By integrating three technologies, industrial equipment supplier Monitor Engineering says industries can now recycle wastewater for applications typically reserved for clean water, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution.
Despite its importance, water is one of the most wasted resources, particularly in industrial settings, but innovative technologies are revolutionising Monitor Engineering’s approach to wastewater management, allowing businesses to minimise their water consumption to nearly zero.
By integrating three “powerful” technologies companies can improve recycling rates, with the process starting by capturing used or wastewater from any underground or surface-level dirty water dam.
A Weir skimmer, connected to the robust Vesta air-operated double diaphragm solids-handling flap valve pump, collects and transfers this water. The heavy-duty pump is specifically designed to handle the demands of transferring water with high solid content, ensuring seamless operation, the company explains.
Next, the water is pumped into a Läckeby rotary drum screen, an advanced filtration device designed to separate solid particles from the liquid.
This step ensures that all solids measuring less than or equal to 0.8 mm are effectively removed, the company states, adding that the screen is equipped with an internal screw that conveys the solids into a designated bin, leaving behind conditioned water, which will be ready for further use.
The conditioned water, free of larger contaminants, is then discharged into a collection drum or container, making it available for immediate use.
“By leveraging this filtration system, industries can create a sustainable loop, drastically reducing the need for freshwater intake,” Monitor Engineering says.
Lastly, the clean, conditioned water then feeds into a Hydra-Cell high-pressure, seal-less diaphragm pump.
This pump can use recycled water for a range of applications. These include high-pressure cleaning, dust suppression and gland service on slurry pump stuffing boxes.
“With this combination of cutting-edge technologies, industries can operate high-pressure pumps with zero water cost, while drastically reducing water [waste]. As companies look for sustainable ways to operate in a water-conscious world, this system offers a compact, efficient, and eco-friendly solution for reusing water,” the company says, noting that this innovation is “not just a win for business, but it’s a win for the environment”.
By using wastewater more efficiently, companies can significantly reduce their ecological footprint while maintaining high-performance operations, the company concludes.
