The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed automaker Volvo Car South Africa is recalling the XC90 models made for sale on January 20, 2023, and October 29, 2024, as well as the XC40 MY2024, which was made available for sale on January 24, 2024.

Volvo notified the commission that there may potential software failures in the brake control modules of the XC90 models that started selling in January 2023, which may lead to a loss of braking support function.

In turn, the XC90 model that started selling on October 29, 2024, is being recalled owing to a rod between the brake pedal and brake booster that may not have been assembled according to manufacturing specifications. If the rod detaches, the brake pedal will not work correctly.

The XC40 MY2024 model, meanwhile, has an issue related to the indicator system, which, according to Volvo, could, in rare cases, lead to a temporary loss of the left rear turn indicator function.

Consumers who have these vehicles are urged to contact the supplier.

Moreover, Cape Herb & Spice notified the NCC on January 30 that they wish to recall various manufactured products between September 2023 and May 2024, notably the chilli and garlic seasoning, black peppercorns, pink salt, salt and pepper, sea salt, seasoned salt and sweet and smokey barbeque spices.

The supplier informed the NCC that there have been reports that the grinder mechanism breaks during use, resulting in a hard plastic object emitted from the grinder.

NCC urges consumers in possession of these spices to immediately stop using them and return them to the supplier or point of purchase for a full refund.

NCC acting commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu has tasked Volvo and Cape Herb & Spice to take all necessary measures to ensure consumers are made aware of the product recalls and that the necessary redress is provided to affected consumers.
