Saudi Arabia State-owned Shuqaiq Water and Electricity Company.

Project Description
Shuqaiq is one of the biggest reverse osmosis desalination plants in the world.

Shuqaiq 3, complete in 2022, has a capacity of 450 000 m3/d.

Shuqaiq 4 has a capacity of 400 000 m3 /d of water and features state-of-the-art seawater reverse osmosis technology, designed to offer maximum energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact. 

The plants’ solar PV facility will reduce power consumption.

The project has been developed under a 25-year build, own, operate contract scheme.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create about 700 jobs from the start of construction until commissioning of the plant.

Not stated.

Planned Start/End Date
Shuqaiq 3 reached its commercial operation in 2022 and Shauqaiq 4 in November 2025. The latter's commercial operation date is set for 2029.

Latest Developments
ACCIONA has successfully completed the construction and commissioning of the Shuqaiq 4 desalination plant, providing a new source of potable water for more than 3.5-million people.
