SteelXperts, a black woman-owned and managed South African-based provider of quality steel fabrication and steel installation services, participated in the ground-breaking, Redstone CSP Project in South Africa by supplying fabricated steel components for the heliostats surrounding the Tower. The Redstone CSP project is the first Tower Concentrated Solar Thermal Power (CSP) plant using molten salt technology in Northern Cape, South Africa.

Launched in 2021, the project, owned by ACWA Power, commissioned SteelXperts to fabricate over 9000 tons of steel. The SteelXperts team embarked on 24/7 production to complete their scope in the project. As of March 2025, the plant, with a total investment of about R11.6 billion, was in its final testing stage.

"This was the largest project our company had participated in, which was challenging yet fulfilling. It was truly a privilege and an honor, working on a project of such national importance and gravitas that would ultimately improve the lives of many South African residents, "– Mayleen Kyster Nduli, Steel Xperts CEO

"Our highly skilled and professional team of 15 managers most of whom are qualified engineers,
who were managing more than 100 people are the true stars of the show who, through their commitment, spirit of excellence, and resilience through many challenges, ensured we delivered a quality product to our clients.

The 100 MW Redstone Concentrated Solar Thermal Power (CSP) Project is one of seven CSP powerplants in sub- Saharan Africa and one of the most significant renewable energy investment projects in South Africa.

Xie Yanjun, the project's chief engineer, said the structures around the tower, known as heliostats, are designed to accurately follow the sun's trajectory and redirect sunlight towards a designated focal point, such as the central receiver atop the tower.

The Redstone project is projected to generate approximately 480 GWh of electricity annually for the national grid. This substantial output will effectively cater to the power requirements of over 200,000 South African households.

Redstone CSP will offset an estimated 440 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year while also providing value- adding ancillary services to Eskom. It is the first renewable energy project in the country to offer ancillary services.
