Scores of former Aurora Empowerment Systems' workers gathered outside the High Court in Pretoria on Monday morning as the court heard a claim against the mining company's directors.

The directors are accused of stripping the assets of the liquidated Pamodzi Gold's mines in Springs, Gauteng, and Orkney, North West.

Former president Nelson Mandela's grandson Zondwa Mandela and President Jacob Zuma's nephew Khulubuse Zuma are among the company's owners the Aurora liquidators want held responsible for the company's alleged fraudulent running.

Singing and dancing workers waved placards reading "Where is our money?" and "Aurora directors must account".

Aurora was liquidated in October 2011. Its directors were accused of destroying the infrastructure at the mines and causing the loss of more than 5 300 jobs.

Aurora was appointed to take over the management of the two Pamodzi Gold mines in Gauteng and the North West after that company was liquidated in 2009.

Earlier this month, an urgent application by Zuma to have claims of over R1.5-billion against Aurora set aside was dismissed by the high court.

On Thursday, eNCA reported it had reliably learnt that Mandela was being sought by the Hawks for a statement.

This related to a 2010 shares deal between Aurora and Labat Africa involving R5.3-million.

According to the report, the Hawks searched for Mandela at the Nelson Mandela Foundation's offices and the former president's home in Houghton, Johannesburg.

However, the Hawks would not confirm the search for him in connection with an ongoing fraud probe relating to Aurora.
